First time here. Brought my aunt from out of town. Wonderful sushi. Friendly staff. Will definitely be back!

This place is truly a gem. I am a sushi lover and I would rate this place at a very high spot in my heart. I can confidently say this place is better than a lot of 'popular' sushi restaurants. Only downside is that it's a bit far for me since I live in the SGV area or I will be a regular here for sure. The restaurant is not as big yet modern and clean. Everything here is very fresh. You can taste the sweetness of the fish and don't need much sauces. I would 100% come back again to try their other items.

Leo, the owner and head Sushi Chef is beyond creative, the fish is always as fresh as can be and the service is great. If you love sushi, Akira Sushi is a MUST TRY DESTINATION. You will go back again and again!

Leo is the best sushi chef and owner of Akira. Whether you order from the menu or omakase, your tastebuds will be in heaven. The staff is attentive and courteous. With sushi restaurants everywhere Akira is worth driving out of your way for an unmatched experience.

I was skeptical at first with the simplicity of the decor of the restaurant, but was willing to give it a try after reading a few good reviews. Needless to say, never judge a book by its cover. It was, hands-down, one of the best omakase experiences I've ever had. And I've been to a lot. Chef Leo takes you on a journey through your palate delicately with care and precision. His choice of each course of fish you are given is extremely well thought out. We ended up going back to experience Akira and their standard menu and it's just as good. I want to keep it a secret for selfish reasons, but something this good needs to be shared with everyone. Highly recommend everyone to go. Btw, I saw a one star review from a customer about their omakase experience. It's sad that they reviewed this restaurant so poorly given the fact that they praised the fish. Their frustration should have been about their own lack of understanding on what a course is in omakase instead of projecting their ignorance on the restaurant.

I took 2 guests to experience Omakase at the sushi bar with Chef Leo. We all fell in love with Chef Leo! What a doll! The omakase experience is quite traditional, with a few flairs. Chef Leo lets the fish speak for itself. He is very passionate about fish and showed us all the photos of the catches over the week on his phone. We tried a couple of aged fish, which I'd never eaten before. I loved it! All the fish tasted exactly as it should. The real showstopper though, was his homemade pickled veggies! I kid you not, his pickled ginger was the best thing I've eaten in years! I would have purchased a jar if it was available. (He did give me some to take home at the end of our meal. It truly made my day!) Chef Leo was gracious and kind the whole way through. He made us laugh and made our tummies happy. The atmosphere is small, intimate, and perfect for a lovely evening out. Treat yo' self to a beautiful dining experience!

Very high quality sushi and the chef is awesome. I gave him a budget and he put together a custom omakase experience for us. We really enjoyed it. Atmosphere could use a little more warmth. Lighting at the bar was also a little too bright. Highly recommend.

This place was a hidden gem. Was so pleased with the experience. The chef and server were Japanese and very friendly courteous and took pride in the sushi. Very quick and attentive during lunch. Trendy clean interior styling nice dishes and tables/ art on the wall. Feels authentic. Started with the salmon aburi sashimi- perfectly smoked and tender cooked medium rare. Delicious. Next had the Akira roll. Very big pieces and fresh a multitude of flavors. Delicious Moving on to the salmon belly sushi- very fresh and fatty piece was perfect and large sushi cuts 2 pieces. Garlic albacore was my favorite. Very unique and crunchy garlic flakes on top. Also a hint of lemony flavor. Finished off with the spicy yellowtail cut roll. Just a plain roll but the rice was seasoned and had sesame seeds. Delicious fresh flavorful fish. Place was amazing and is among the best in the area. 130 dollars for two people before tax and tip however it's not cheap.

Another great sushi restaurant on Ventura to add to your list! We really enjoyed Akira - so authentic, clean interior, friendly service, amazing sushi. Here's what we got in order of my favorites! They were all so fresh. Presentation was amazing and particularly enjoyed their sushi rice. - Salmon belly - Akira roll - Garlic Albacore roll - Negi Toro hand roll - Spicy shrimp crab hand roll - Yellowtail cut roll - Aburi salmon sashimi Would definitely come back. Street parking on Ventura.

Amazing! I had the avocado cucumber roll. My husband had the dragon roll (Decorated like an actual dragon! Omg! Art! He wouldn't let me take a pic!) and futomaki roll. The service was polite and informed and quick. No wait for a table on a Saturday night! Delicious. Must try! Wonderful beer and alcohol selection. We had three beers. Loved the music and ambiance. It was quiet and comfortable/cozy after a long day. Thank you for the lovely meal .
